Airbed and Breakfast - something similar, with beds

Airbeds... pah! It's all about the desks...

Except it’s airbeds / sofas that they’re renting out and they’re charging.  That said the interface is great - very much in the direction that we’re heading with the mapping.

Techcrunch said they set up with $20,000 of seed capital… I think we can beat that with our $0.00 slush fund!

Really nice interface. And the absolute all time web2 classic logo!

Check couchsurfing as well. Not as cool on the design side but I believe it’s a very well established community: http://www.couchsurfing.org/
Interesting to read how they deal with the ’safety’ aspect too: http://www.couchsurfing.org/safety.html

Yeah the safety section is interesting. I like the idea of verification. Similar to eBay or PayPal (and I’m sure many other sites, you have an option to verify you account. In the case of PayPal and eBay, if you prove you are located at the registered address, you are eligible for insurance should an item you’ve bought not arrive.

Our verification process could be as simple as sending an email from your work address to “verify@flamingdesks.com” (although I’m sure you’ll all jump on me and tell me that is easy enough to fake!?).. So alternatively maybe we could post a unique code to the registered address which then has to be inputted somewhere within their user section in order to prove they are located at the correct premises?

It’s another idea for phase [insert number > 2] (As Dave so nicely puts it!)
